The Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD) has announced its fourth call for projects for Sud Expert Plantes Sustainable Development (SEP2D) that seeks to consolidate initiatives in favor of plant biodiversity in the countries of the South, in particular by supporting the development of tools and projects to ensure the sustainability of plant collections collected by institutions in the South.
The objective of this call is to contribute to the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation by promoting documentation and knowledge of plant biodiversity through the use of collections. The projects supported will aim at improving the management, use and development of dry collections (herbarium projects) or living collections (botanical garden projects) of plant specimens.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, projects must:
- be carried by an institution originating in one of the 22 countries covered by the program:
- West Africa: Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Togo
- Central Africa: Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, CAR, DRC, Rwanda, Chad
- Indian Ocean: Comoros, Madagascar
- South-East Asia: Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam
- concern collections of plants of national, regional or national importance
- in the case of herbarium projects: concern mainly collections already existing, ie with specimens already collected
- in the case of botanical gardens projects: rely on a structure with collection management capacities
