The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has launched the Projects on Seagrass Conservation, Restoration and the Regenerative Blue Economy.
These locally impactful projects will create a network of transformative seagrass action and leadership in the Western Indian Ocean region.
Themes
- The project must address at least one of the following themes:
- Integrating seagrass meadows in marine protected areas (MPAs) and Locally Managed Marine Areas (LMMAs);
- Restoring degraded meadows;
- Implementing protection and regeneration measures for seagrass meadows;
- Contribute to the protection of emblematic species such as dugong, turtles, seahorses;
- Developing regenerative blue economy activities
- Supporting the extension and/or creation of new conservation areas that target seagrass ecosystems
Funding Information
- Portfolio 1
- Between $50,000 – $100,000 (1 per country)
- Universities, research institutions, councils, civil society orgs; not-for-profits and non-government organisations
- Portfolio 2
- Between $20,000 – $40,000 (10 grants)
- Civil society organisations, not for profit organisations, non-government organisations, LMMA practitioners, cooperatives etc.
Geographic Focus
- Comoros, Madagascar, Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique
