The Auckland Council is pleased to announce the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Grant Program.
Priorities
- The Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board welcomes grant applications that deliver the following priorities outlined in the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board Plan:
- People feel a sense of belonging and diversity is celebrated
- Mana whenua and Māori are active partners and participants in local decision making
- Communities are given the opportunity to fully participate in local decision-making
- Communities feel a sense of belonging and are supported to thrive
- Communities are equipped and empowered to sustainably overcome challenges and succeed
- The arawai/waterways and whenua/land are healthy and thriving
- They support mana whenua and Māori to fulfil their role as kaitiaki and enhance the mauri of te taiao
- ecosystems are respected, protected, and restored
- community is resilient and feels prepared for the effects of climate change
- The facilities and open spaces are accessible, cost-effective, fit-for-purpose and welcoming to the diverse communities
- Community places are accessible and welcoming to the diverse communities
- Māori culture and identity are visible
- The community facilities and open spaces are interconnected, cost efficient, and fit-for purpose
- They have connected neighbourhoods where people feel safe in the community
- They encourage well planned and sustainable infrastructure that supports the growth
- People and traffic move more freely and safely around the area
- The town centres are thriving, and the businesses are resilient
- People are empowered and have access to local employment, education and training opportunities
- They encourage enterprise and innovation in the community
- Thriving local businesses
- Local businesses are supported to provide an environmentally sustainable future
- People feel a sense of belonging and diversity is celebrated

Eligibility Criteria
- Higher Priority for Eligibility
- projects that are inclusive and support under-represented members of the community.
- they will also consider applications for match funding. Match funding is where grants are provided in exchange for the community group’s ‘match’ in volunteer labour, cash or donated goods and services up to the value of 40%. Applications will be prioritised and assessed under the same priorities as other grants.
- projects or activities which empower the community to enhance their resilience to emergencies and the impact of climate change.
- projects or activities that make the communities, feel connected and supported to plan, deliver, and participate in activities and services in their local area.
- Lower Priority for Eligibility
- catering
- the purchase of electronic equipment
- ongoing administration costs – for example wages, salaries or rent with the exception of fees for professional and specialised services.
- fundraising activities for a group or organisation
- projects or events that are outside the local board
- initiatives that are eligible and can be funded by central government
- projects that do not demonstrate any benefit to the wider community
Exclusions
- The Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board will not fund:
- gifts/prizes.
- groups that have failed to meet accountability obligations from previous council grants except in exceptional circumstances.
- grants to support the purchase of assets and/or equipment with limited future use.
- applications for liquor licenses.
- applicants are ineligible to apply for the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board contestable grants if they have had one successful grant application within the current financial year.
