The National Centre for Human Rights in Jordan (NCHR) is seeking proposals for Civil Society Support in Jordan with financial assistance from the Support to Civil Society and Media in Jordan Programme with an aim to strengthen the capacity of CSOs and CBOs to advocate and build awareness among citizens about social, economic, and political and cultural rights.
Objectives
- To improve environment and conditions that enables CSOS and CBOs from all 12 Governorates to be more involved in policy issues as well as political, social, cultural, and economic rights of citizens in the municipal and governorate level
- To develop capacities of youth initiatives to increase their voice and promote their action in the public debate;
- To strengthen technical and advocacy capacities of CSOs working with media and cultural policy issues or collaboration on advocacy.
Grant Information
Any grant requested under this call for proposal must fall between EUR 50,000 to EUR 200,000.
- Lot 1: Political, social, cultural, and human rights: EUR 950,000.
- Lot 2: Youth participation in the public debate: EUR 400,000.
- Lot 3: Women empowerment: EUR 400,000.
- Lot 4: CSOs and Media: EUR 400,000.
Focus Themes
- Promoting political, social, cultural, and economic rights of citizens in urban and rural areas.
- Supporting initiatives that advance women empowerment and promote their role in the economic and public life.
- Supporting youth to actively participate in the public debate.
- Supporting CSOs and CBOs with a media and cultural policy focus (media freedoms, debate about media policy, cultural diversity, freedom of expression, artistic creation)
- Support CSOs and media networks working together to advocate for civil society agendas or enhancing the platform for citizens’ access to media
- Developing the internal organization and capacities of CSO and CBOs on the basis of tailored and innovative capacity building;
- Improving the link between CSOs and the media world and improve the capacities of using communication in an effective way with various kinds of audiences, from the general public to policy makers
- Strengthening the voice and credibility of CSOs and CBOs through better coordination and cooperation among themselves and with Government.
- Strengthening the capacities of CSOs and CBOs to play an effective role in policy planning, implementation, and monitoring at Municipal and Governorate level.
Location
Actions must take place in Jordan.
Duration
The initial planned duration of an action may not be lower than 12 months nor exceed 24 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- In order to be eligible for a grant, the lead applicant must:
- be legally registered in accordance with Jordanian law, and
- be non-profit making, non-governmental, and
- be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the action with the co-applicant(s) and affiliated entity(ies), not acting as an intermediary, and
- have sufficient sources of finance to ensure the continuity of their organisation throughout the project and, as may be applicable, contribute co-funding, and
- be experienced and able to demonstrate capacity to manage an activity corresponding with the size of the project for which a grant is requested.
- The lead applicant must act with co-applicant(s) as specified hereafter. Co-applicants participate in designing and implementing the action, and the costs they incur are eligible in the same way as those incurred by the lead applicant.
- The lead applicant and its co-applicant(s) may act with affiliated entity(ies) that include:
- Entities directly or indirectly controlled by an applicant (daughter companies or first-tier subsidiaries). They may also be entities controlled by an entity controlled by an applicant (granddaughter companies or second-tier subsidiaries) and the same applies to further tiers of control;
- Entities directly or indirectly controlling the applicant (parent companies). Likewise, they may be entities controlling an entity controlling the applicant;
- Entities under the same direct or indirect control as the applicant (sister companies).
How to Apply
- The application procedure consists of two phases:
- concept notes
- full application
- In the first instance, only concept notes must be submitted for evaluation. Thereafter, lead applicants who have been pre-selected will be invited to submit a full application.
