The Department of Health and Human Services is seeking applications for its Advancing National Epidemiologic, Surveillance, Research and Laboratory Capacities and Systems Program.
They expect you to partner with the Government of the Kingdom of Eswatini to strengthen national surveillance, research, and laboratory capacities, as well as emergency preparedness and response systems and structures to monitor and inform a sustainable response to HIV/TB and related public health threats.

- Outbreak detection, investigation, response and recovery.
- Epidemic modeling.
- Data analytics and visualization.
Funding Information
- Expected total NOFO funding for Year 1: $5,500,000.
Strategies
- Strategy 1: Strengthen the national surveillance system to monitor and report quality data on infectious and noninfectious threats that impact people living with and affected by HIV/TB.
- Strategy 2: Strengthen national capacity to define HIV/TB and related public health research priorities, oversee and coordinate evidence generation, and translate data into public health policy and practice.
- Strategy 3: Advance the public health workforce by improving epidemiology, surveillance, laboratory, and preparedness and response competencies.
- Strategy 4: Strengthen laboratory governance, leadership, services, and systems to effectively manage and implement the national laboratory program.
- Strategy 5: Build capacity of Eswatini CDC to lead national public health functions, including management and control of HIV/TB and related public health emergencies and health threats.
Eligible Activities
- As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen national laboratory systems, priority activities will:
- Tackle structural barriers.
- Enhance diagnostic network operations.
- Build molecular testing capacity.
- Advance laboratory information system interoperability.
- Improve quality management.
- Facilitate access to and uptake of quality laboratory services.
