The U.S. Department of State’s Consulate General Peshawar (CGP) announces an open competition for one assistance award through this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO), contingent on funding availability, through the Public Diplomacy Grants Program.
Project Goal
- The goal of this Masterclass is to increase the knowledge and awareness of the role men play in ending gender-based violence and women’s rights among 40 coaches, with a focus on U.S. and Pakistani cooperation. These coaches will then disseminate this knowledge to the young boys on the sports field to improve the attitude and behavior towards women not only in the sports field but in the life outside sports world as well. Specifically, this program aims to reduce the prevalence of gender-based violence against girls and women in Pakistan.
- Forty coaches are trained to incorporate learned techniques on ending GBV into their coaching curriculum.
- Coaches will integrate the teachings from the masterclass into their everyday coaching and mentoring methods.
- These teachings will reach a minimum of 400 students in the first year.
Project Objectives
- Coaches learn to design and deliver gender-based violence prevention-oriented coaching towards boys focused on girls’ rights education and personal empowerment through sport.
- Through techniques learned in the masterclass, coaches develop and improve their capacity to sensitize male players on the sexual harassment and its prevention.
- 40 coaches and 400 boys develop a clearer awareness of their role in ending gender-based violence.
- New ties between individuals working on issues of gender-based violence in Pakistan and the United States are created for continued engagement and information sharing and learning.

Project Audience(s)
- Sports coaches from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who are government employees, between the age of 25 to 45 and who train young boys in various sports.
Eligibility Criteria
- The following organizations are eligible to apply:
- Not-for-profit organizations
- Civil society/non-governmental organizations
- For-profit entities, even those that may fall into the categories listed above, are not eligible to apply for this NOFO. Organizations may sub-contract with other entities, but only one, non-profit, non-governmental entity can be the prime recipient of the award. When sub-contracting with other entities, the responsibilities of each entity must be clearly defined in the proposal.
