The U.S. Embassy New Zealand, Public Diplomacy (PD) Section of the U.S. Department of State honors the 150th anniversary of United States–New Zealand scientific collaboration and announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to advance the future of scientific collaboration between their countries in 2024–2025.
Scientific collaboration in the realm of climate change, indigenous science, tech, health, Antarctica, and Space will be given priority.
Program Objectives
- PD New Zealand invites Statements of Interest (SOI) for projects in 2024-2025 to advance United States and New Zealand scientific collaboration for New Zealand audiences. Priority will be given to science collaboration projects in the realm of climate change, indigenous science, tech, health, Antarctica, Space, and align with the priority areas outlined below.
- All programs must include an American cultural element or connection with American expert/s, organization/s, or institution/s in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of United States policy and perspectives.
Priority Program Areas
- Programs that tackle global challenges including mitigating, adapting, and combatting climate change as the number one identified security risk in the Pacific region through climate engagements, citizen science engagements, and outreach.
- Programs that support Māori and Pasifika communities and/or connect with indigenous communities from the United States in indigenous science and innovation.
- Programs that focus on tech and sustainable clean energy sources.
- Programs that strengthen existing cooperation and build new programs to promote science, and health initiatives.
- Programs that ensure the Antarctic is reserved for peace, science and marine conservation and empower and support conservation and biodiversity efforts throughout New Zealand.
- Programs that enhance cooperation on Space issues between the United States and New Zealand.
Funding Information
- Length of performance period: Up to 15 months.
- Award amounts: Awards may range from a minimum of $5,000 to a maximum of $30,000.
Ineligibility Projects
- Projects relating to partisan political activity.
- Charitable or development activities.
- Construction projects.
- Projects that support specific religious activities.
- Fund-raising campaigns.
- Lobbying for specific legislation or projects.
- Scientific research (please note the “research” part).
- Projects intended primarily for the growth or institutional development of the organization.
- Projects seeking funds for personal use.
Eligibility Criteria
- The following organizations are eligible to apply:
- Not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations.
- Public and private educational institutions.
- Individuals.
- Public International Organizations and Governmental institutions.
