UNDP Kenya through the Climate Promise and funding from UK’s Department for Environment and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) invites local communities and indigenous peoples organized through civil society organizations, community forest associations, or forest-dependent communities to submit proposals for the award of grants in innovative and transformative, informing policy and methodologies that can influence and shape NDC implementation in the forest and land-use sector.
Objectives
The objectives of this Grants programme are:
- To enhance and pilot IPLC contributions to Kenya’s REDD+ Strategy and NDC implementation;
- To strengthen the roles and recognition of IPLCs in the REDD+ Strategy and NDC implementation; and
- To strengthen stakeholder engagement in the REDD+ Strategy implementation and the NDC process.
Thematic Areas
These areas form the thematic areas for this call for proposals and are as follows:
- Scaling up afforestation and reforestation and landscape restoration programmes;
- Enhancing governance and policy implementation to reduce the conversion of forests to other land uses;
- Increase productivity of plantation forests; and
- Enhance efficiency, effective and skills in forest related value chains
Funding Information
- Proposals with budgets of up to USD 30,000 will be considered for the award.
- All activities financed by this Grants programme must be implemented by 31 December 2023.
Geographical Scope: Kenya
Eligibility Criteria
- In order to be eligible for a grant, applicants must:
- Be a Kenyan civil society organizations and indigenous people’s organizations registered under the Societies Act;
- Be directly responsible for the preparation and management of the project, i.e. not acting as an intermediary;
- Have a bank account;
- Fundamental principles:
- Submission by a civil society organisation, indigenous people’s organizations and/or community forest association;
- Parameters of the project activities: costs/budget, scope, time frame, benefits/impact, risks, and sustainability;
- An inclusive approach that values diversity among youth, women and men;
- Initiatives that are innovative including nature based solutions etc
- Taking into consideration the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), contributions to NDC implementation;
