The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB), in collaboration with UN Women and funded by KOICA, has launched a transformative digital skills initiative aimed at empowering young women aged 18 to 35 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
The program is part of a broader vision to enhance women’s participation in the digital economy and foster their financial independence through technology-driven opportunities.
The initiative aims to train 3,000 young women in key digital competencies. Training covers areas such as social media marketing, graphic design, WordPress development, blogging, and productivity tools—equipping participants with the skills needed to thrive in the online marketplace.
In addition to technical training, the program offers guidance on safe internet usage, mentorship opportunities, and support in accessing freelancing platforms to help women turn their digital skills into sustainable income.
In its first phase, the program exceeded its goals, successfully training over 3,035 women. More than 30% of the participants secured employment, collectively generating around PKR 225 million in annual income.
This outcome illustrates the real-world impact of the initiative in boosting economic outcomes through digital literacy.
This initiative is part of KPITB’s broader Digital Jobs program, which promotes inclusive economic growth by forming strategic partnerships with local and international organizations.
The program continues to expand, introducing new mentorship schemes and youth engagement activities designed to help women tap into high-demand IT sectors such as software development and data analytics.
The project also addresses the significant digital gender divide in Pakistan, where women have traditionally had limited access to digital tools and online spaces.
By providing structured training, access to technology, and platforms for engagement, the program is closing this gap and enabling more women to participate meaningfully in the digital economy.
