The Sydney Water is seeking applications for its Community Grant Program to support local community groups across Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, and the Illawarra area, to deliver projects that directly benefit communities.
Focus Area: Sydney Water’s 2022 Community Grants Program is seeking projects focused on Healthy Waterways.
Themes

Keeping our waterways clean
- Preventing pollution from being carried into waterways, e.g., litter, detergents, chemicals, and pet droppings.
- Improving our waterways, e.g., removing weeds, improving bushland, creating habitat, reducing pollution, and managing run-off.

Stormwater in a built environment
- Water sensitive urban design to help capture, treat and re-use stormwater before it can pollute and degrade our creeks and rivers, e.g., rain gardens.

Safely enjoying our local waterways
- Initiatives to help the community enjoy Sydney’s beautiful waterways, e.g., recreation, culture, environment, and safety.
Funding Information
Community Grants of up to $10,000 (minimum of $5,000) per project are available.
Types of projects funded
- Develop a project to educate, share knowledge, and engage people in community activities designed to manage Healthy Waterways.
- Partner with your local council to produce a Healthy Waterways experience that can be shared by your local community.
- Design and deliver a place making project, e.g., build resilience, increase natural shade, create natural habitat, reduce litter or stormwater runoff.
- Find ways to utilise water more than once in your local community and implement change.
- Help the local community to develop new skills that support Healthy Waterways.
- Design a project to help your community or workplace to conserve, restore and connect to natural waterways.
- Content creators might communicate a Healthy Waterways story or develop a learning resource through artwork, writing, audio, or filmmaking.
- Create a Healthy Waterways project focused on the wellbeing of others to help build resilience and stronger communities.
- Create water and shade opportunities to deliver accessible living space and wellbeing benefits to community.
- Build local capacity and knowledge about Healthy Waterways for a sustainable future.
Eligibility Criteria
- Innovative projects are sought from community-minded organisations and groups who share Sydney Water’s vision of building Healthy Waterways and creating a better life for today and generations to come.
- The Applicant must have an Australian Business Number (ABN) or be registered as a notfor-profit organisation.

The Program is open to (but not limited to) the following groups within the Sydney Water’s area of operation (Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, and the Illawarra):
- Not-for-profit organisations
- Social enterprise groups
- Social groups and sports clubs
- Education institutions (schools, universities, TAFE NSW colleges)
- Content creators, e.g., artists, writers, filmmakers, bloggers, photographers, designers
- Volunteer groups
- Councils working in partnership with community groups
- Public health or allied health body and housing co-operatives who can facilitate grassroots projects with community groups.
Ineligible
- Sydney Water employees/contractors or their immediate family members
- Organisations that in Sydney Water’s opinion, expose Sydney Water to a reputational risk
- Organisations with links to negative impacts on the environment or health
- Anyone else or any other proposed projects or initiatives that Sydney Water considers inappropriate or not aligned with its business objectives, values, or policies.
