The Toronto’s Vital Signs Grants Program aims to surface and support high-impact organizations and their visionary work in tackling the city’s inequities.
These organizations are equipped to identify and advance solutions for their communities as they address current challenges and advocate for equity.
The 2025 Toronto’s Vital Signs Grants will focus on small nonprofits and charities working to build their internal capacity. The funding opportunity includes a one-time grant to strengthen the capacity and charitable work of high-impact organizations. Grantees will also receive additional promotion to Toronto Foundation’s network of donors.
Funding Information
- Grantees will also receive additional promotion through Toronto Foundation’s network of donors.
- Eligible small-sized community service organizations may apply for up to $15,000.
- Priority will be given to organizations that are equity-led and equity-serving as well as Indigenous-led organizations.
- A total of $300,000 is available to fund 20-23 organizations.
Eligible Projects
- Types of projects that are eligible:
- Program design, evaluation and innovation
- Community engagement & outreach strategies
- Strategic planning
- Volunteer program development
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to address systemic barriers
Eligibility Criteria
- Toronto’s Vital Signs Grants are awarded to community organizations addressing inequities in Toronto.
- Only one application per organization will be accepted for this grant stream.
- Applicants must be:
- An incorporated nonprofit (incorporated federally or with the province of Ontario), that has a business registration number registered prior to December 1, 2023,
- or;
- A registered charity,
- or;
- A non-profit applying with a charitable trustee partner in place.
- Applicants must also meet the following requirements:
- Be in good standing with the provincial or federal registry
- Be in good standing with CRA
- Have a basic governance structure (at least three people on the board, management committee, or other type of governing body) with internal accountability measures in place (ie: practices and procedures for internal controls and accountability)
- Have a bank account in the name of the organization and systems and processes to track the organization’s income and expense transactions effectively
- Have an operating budget under $500,000
Ineligibility Criteria
- The following are ineligible for this year’s Toronto’s Vital Signs Grant:
- Nonprofit associations focused on only serving their members
- Business non-profit institutions, including business associations, chambers of commerce and condominium associations
- For-profit initiatives
- Individuals
