Toybox is seeking applications from local registered NGOs in Malawi or Ethiopia through its Hope for the Streets Fund.
Toybox is currently funding projects in Latin America (Bolivia, El Salvador and Guatemala); Asia (India and Nepal) and Africa (Kenya). They are seeking to expand their footprint in Africa- namely Malawi and/or Ethiopia and are seeking applications from local partner organisations in these two countries for an initial one year pilot project. If the project and partnership are deemed successful in meeting mutual goals, further multiyear funding will be considered.
Funding Information
- The maximum budget is £40,000 for an initial one year pilot project.
Eligible Projects
- Toybox would like to receive project proposals from organisations which meet the criteria for a one-year pilot project aimed at one or more of the following:
- Birth Registration: Enabling children and young people in street situations (and their families) to access services and hold Governments to account
- Formal/Non Formal/Alternative Education: Enhancing access and quality of education- and educational outcomes for Children in Street situations
- Livelihoods: Empowering young people and caregivers in street situations to access opportunities to earn a decent wage from safe work to support their basic needs
- Access to Justice: Supporting children and young people in street situations to navigate the juvenile justice system and appropriately reintegrate with their families and communities.
Eligibility Criteria
- Toybox is accepting applications to the Hope for the Streets fund from organisations which meet the following criteria:
- A registered NGO and can provide proof of registration in Malawi or Ethiopia
- Working in urban areas of Malawi or Ethiopia (NB applications focused on rural areas or other countries will not be accepted)
- Have not previously received funding from The Toybox Charity
- Average organisational income is less than £700,000/$885,000 a year
- Experienced in working with children and young people in street situations, supporting them to know and access their rights
- Experienced in at least two of the following sectors: Birth Registration, Education, Inclusion, Health/Nutrition (including mental health and menstrual hygiene), Economic Empowerment, Juvenile Justice, Child Rights/Advocacy and Family Reintegration/Positive Parenting
- Proven track record of implementing successful child focused projects from various donors
- Able to implement a one-year pilot project with the potential to expand if successful.
- Confident to try new, innovative ideas and approaches
- Committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults
- Have systems and checks in place to prevent fraud and bribery and to measure change in the lives of participants.
- Willing to go through a due diligence process before funding is committed
