The United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Mission in Sri Lanka is currently inviting qualified U.S. and non-U.S. non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for funding of an activity entitled “Media Empowerment for a Democratic Sri Lanka” (MEND).

The overall goal of the activity is to improve citizen access to balanced, reliable, and objective news in Sri Lanka. This project will support Sri Lanka’s efforts to solidify recent advances in media freedom and democratic governance.

Under this activity, the successful applicant will be responsible for working with media, journalists and editors, media-related commissions and agencies, and relevant organizations that support media, access to information, and media freedom.

Project Objectives

The following objectives will contribute directly to improve citizen access to balanced, reliable, and objective news in Sri Lanka. To achieve the goal, this activity will have the following objectives:

Funding Information

Subject to the availability of funds, USAID intends to provide $6,000,000 in total funding for this program over a four year period.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualified U.S. and non-U.S. Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), U.S. Private Voluntary Organizations (PVOs), and U.S. and non-U.S. for profit firms (provided they forgo profit) may participate in this funding opportunity.
