The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Senegal is seeking applications for a cooperative agreement from qualified entities to implement the School Water Integrated Solutions for Health activity to increase access to water in the Matam region.
Illustrative Activities
The modality to ramp up approaches will consider the following methodology:
- Situational assessment of water needs in identified villages with the aim to prioritize intervention based on size, lower cost technology to supply water, and willingness of communities to cost-share construction;
- Design and develop/build suitable systems for water supply;
- Build capacity of communities to ensure community participation in service delivery management;
- Develop a Social Behavior Change Campaign (SBCC) to promote hygiene behaviors (hand washing – water treatment – menstrual hygiene);
- Establish a distribution network of water treatment products and low-cost handwashing stations in cross collaboration with other USAID programs.
Indicators
Potential standard water indicators may include the following:
- Number of people gaining access to safely managed drinking water services as a result of USG assistance
- Number of institutional settings gaining access to basic drinking water services as a result of USG assistance
- Percentage of households with soap and water at a handwashing station commonly used by family members
- Number of water and sanitation sector institutions strengthened to manage water resources or improve water supply and sanitation services as a result of USG assistance

Eligibility Criteria
- Only Local NGOs (LNGOs) are eligible for awards.
- USAID encourages applications from potential new partners.
- USAID defines a “local entity” as an individual, a corporation, a nonprofit organization, or another body of persons that:
- Is legally organized under the laws of; and
- Has as its principal place of business or operations in; and
- Is majority owned by individuals who are citizens or lawful permanent residents; and
- Is managed by a governing body the majority of who are citizens or lawful permanent residents of the country receiving assistance.
- These eligibility requirements apply to only the principal applicant.
- USAID welcomes applications from organizations that have not previously received financial assistance from USAID.
