USAID/West Africa: Countering Violent Extremism Piloting

Deadline: 25 April 2017

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is seeking applications from qualified U.S. and Non-U.S. organizations to fund a program entitled “Countering Violent Extremism Piloting” to develop solutions to urgent and critical violent extremist (VE) challenges in West Africa.

The activities will focus on providing innovative approaches that address current countering violent extremism (CVE) challenges and each approach will serve as a pilot and has the potential to be scalable and/or replicable following the completion of the activity.

Priority Areas

  • Science, Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (STIP)
    • Assist communities to develop their own narratives counter to those of violent extremists;
    • Strengthen community cohesion and resilience;
    • Build bridges between groups that distrust each other;
    • Create and support economic opportunities;
    • Support peace building initiatives;
    • Improve management and monitoring of CVE activities.
  • CVE Tools
    • Assess VE vulnerability of communities or
    • Identify processes that positively address community vulnerabilities.

Funding Information

  • The maximum award amount is not expected to exceed $500,000.
  • The period of performance anticipated herein is between six (6) and twelve 12 months. The estimated start date for the first award(s) under this APS is on or about September 2016.

Eligible Criteria

Eligible organizations include:

  • Registered U.S. and non-U.S. private non-governmental organizations,
  • Registered U.S. and non-U.S. non-profit organizations,
  • For-profit organizations willing to forego profit, and
  • Public international organizations.
