The Waterloo Region Community Foundation is seeking applications for the Arts Grants Program to address social infrastructure through grants that support arts and culture experiences that take place in Hubs, Havens, and Hangouts in Waterloo Region, turning them into dynamic opportunities for meaningful social interaction.
Small to medium-sized nonprofit arts and culture organizations are open to apply for funding that brings people together in meaningful ways to participate in and/or experience artistic programming in community.
Objectives
- The arts and culture programming that your organization applies for should:
- Be able to show the connection between the proposed activity/activities to strengthening social infrastructure locally.
- Ensure that all who attend and/or participate in the experience you have created feel welcome, respected, safe, and accommodated, regardless of who they are, where they come from, or their abilities.
- Where possible, include art that is inspired and/or sourced from a variety of lived experiences.
- Help to move art forward in the community in interesting ways that engage new and varied audiences (this could be through new programming, engaging new partners, showcasing a variety of arts disciplines, creating linkages between different groups in the community, etc.).
Funding Information
- Approximately $220,000 in funding is available for nonprofit arts and culture organizations that are registered charities, qualified donees, or nonprofit organizations that have fiscal partners
- Applications will be accepted for two levels of grants:
- Spark – $10,000 (Note: successful applicants will receive the full $10,000 requested)
- Scale – $30,000 (Note: successful applicants will receive between $20,000 and $30,000)
Eligible Expenses
- Materials and supplies
- Equipment purchase, rental, lease, and maintenance
- Administration costs
- Technology costs
- Printing and communication
- Community outreach and engagement
- Other activity-related expenses
- Organizations may include general operating expenses for up to 30% of the total grant requested
Eligibility Criteria
- Emerging, small, or medium-sized nonprofit arts and culture organizations. For purposes of this funding, the total annual revenue of your organization cannot exceed $500,000
- Arts collectives, defined as a group of local people that have come together in a structured way, for an artistic purpose
- Your organization is based in Waterloo Region and provides services and/or programming to people in Waterloo Region (Cambridge, Kitchener, North Dumfries, Waterloo, Wellesley, Wilmot, Woolwich)
- Applicant organizations must be:
- Registered charitable organizations;
- Qualified donees recognized by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA); or
- Nonprofit organizations working with a Fiscal Partner that is a registered charitable organization or qualified donee.
