The Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Cameroon is seeking applications for its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) to organized groups in order to help them carry out projects at grassroots level.

Founded in 1993, this grant has contributed to the development and improvement of the livelihoods of less privileged people.

Funding Information

The maximum amount of the grant is about 50,000,000 FCFA for each project. (It may change depending on the fiscal year budget.)

Eligible Organizations and Projects

  • Eligible Organizations:
    • Local and International NGOs
    • Professional, health, or educational training centers
    • CIGs (Common Initiative Groups), CBOs (Community Based Organizations) and local development committees
    • Educational or health institutes
    • Local authorities
  • NB: Non-profit organizations are eligible, except central governments or UN organizations.
  • Prerequisites for Organizations:
    • The organization should be officially registered by relevant authorities
    • The organization should have been active in its domain for at least two (2) years
    • The organization should have an accessible Head Office and project site
    • The organization should have good records of previous projects
    • The organizations should have good financial records and record keeping system
  • Projects Funded:
    • Project for construction, rehabilitation, equipment
    • Projects for Socio-economic development, in Education (schools), Health (hospitals), professional training (vocational training centres), transport (small bridges), Water (wells, water supply), economic (small industry for local income), agriculture (strage magazine)
    • Projects for improvement of livelihoods at grassroots level
    • Projects in favor of the less privileged
    • Projects that can be implemented within 12 months maximum

    We are a Health Service Organization(Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services) in Cameroon promoting healthy living and lifestyles by providing quality health care at community and at facility level to all who need it as an expression of christian love.We equally promote and encourage sports and physical exercise inclusion in the community and among our staff to keep them healthy so that they can better serve the public. We do not have the structures to be hosting the patients that flow into our facilities for help every single day.Therefore l wish to know if we eligible to apply for this grant

    Thank you very much for the Posting. I am the Director of Youth Development Centre (YDC)-a Limbe based non profit association. We works with primary school children, less privileged youth & vulnerable women in our communities in education, food security& livelihoods and WASH. We have a project on the construction of modern classrooms in Mawoh government primary school in Limbe suburb. We also want to carry out vocational training for vulnerable Internally Displaced girls and women but our training centre is incomplete. Can the Embassy advice us on which project to apply for? I am waiting for your response soon. Thanks.

My name is Yuven Juliana from Footsteps for Women and Children-Cameroon (FOWEC-CAM) a local organization working to promote access to quality and inclusive primary education for vulnerable children, economic empowerment and livelihood programs for women and children, the protection and promotion of women and children’s right and environmental protection. Presently, we have developed a socio-economic empowerment program for internally displaced women and girls based in our area of operation. However, we have not managed a project of 50,000,000 before but have been engaged in implementing projects of smaller amounts. Can we still apply for this grant? Thank you for your response.
