The European Union on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day is pleased to announce an open call for the EU Prize for Journalism 2023.
Established in 2012, the EU Prize for Journalism is an annual event that encourages professionalism and ethical conduct in Georgian journalism, organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia. The Special Prize for conflict-sensitive journalism rewards media outlets contributing to confidence building and peace and is handed out by the European Union Monitoring Mission.
Categories
The EU Prize for Journalism will be awarded in the following categories:
- Best story in print or online media;
- Best feature story in broadcast or online media;
- Best investigative story in print, online, or broadcast media;
- Best blog, opinion or column in print, online or broadcast media;
- The most innovative and original piece of work in print, broadcast or online media;
- Best documentary photo reflecting EU values;
- Best Student work in print, online or broadcast media;
Benefits
- The winners of the first seven categories will receive a cash prize of approximately 5,200 GEL each, while the winner of the EUMM Special Prize will receive a one-month fellowship at the Institute of War and Peace Reporting in London.
Eligibility Criteria
- The EUMM Special Prize for Peace Journalism will be awarded for the best conflict-sensitive journalistic work contributing to confidence-building and peace in the context of armed conflicts in Georgia.
- Only citizens of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders, aged 18 years or older. Entries must have been originally published/ broadcast/ posted between 30 November, 2022 and 1 November, 2023 inclusive.
- Entries must be in Georgian, English or Russian languages. Entries for Category G (the EUMM Special Prize for Peace Journalism) may also be submitted in Abkhazian and Ossetian languages.
Requirements
- Applicants may only submit their own work.
- It is mandatory for the applicant to indicate the name and surname of the co-author (if any) in the special field indicated in the application form.
- A person participated in the creation of a journalistic work submitted to the competition (video editor, cameraman, photographer, additional/second author, etc.) can be considered as a co-author.
- An editor will not be considered as a co-author.
- The team does not exceed three (3) members; In case of winning, a whole team will receive the monetary prize.
- Members of the team having applied for one category will not be eligible for applying for other categories.
- Only single-author submissions will be accepted for Category G (the EUMM Special Prize for Peace Journalism).
