The Public Art Challenge aims to support temporary public art projects that engage citizens, celebrate creativity and generate a positive impact on cities.
Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Public Art Challenge encourages mayors to partner with artists, elevating the value of including the creative sector when developing solutions to significant urban issues. The program supports temporary public art projects that celebrate creativity, enhance urban identity, encourage public-private collaborations, and strengthen local economies.
Benefits
- They invite mayors of U.S. cities with 30,000 residents or more to submit proposals for projects that demonstrate close partnership between artists, arts organizations and city government, with selected cities receiving up to $1 million each over two years.
- Duration: Grant funds will be available for development and execution of the project over a maximum of 24 months following the announcement of final awards.
Eligibility Criteria
- They invite mayors of U.S. cities.
Selection Criteria
- Innovative public art project
- Potential for positive impact on the host city
- Proof of clear, specific partnership between local government and artists and/or arts organizations
- Commitment to evaluating outcomes
- Evidence of technical feasibility of the project idea and its implementation (i.e. staff, consultants, fabricators, engineers, strategy for regulatory approvals, etc.)
- Appropriate budget and capacity to leverage other sources of support
- Strong marketing and audience engagement strategies.
