Deadline: 19-Feb-23
The U.S. Embassy Tokyo’s Public Affairs Section announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out a program to address Cleantech Business Case Competition.
Program Objectives
- Japan is an essential ally in the efforts to address the existential threat of the global climate crisis, including through the expanded deployment of clean energy technologies in the Indo-Pacific region.
- Accelerating clean technologies to confront such crisis is essential for global sustainability and can be a driver for innovation and economic growth in the United States and Japan. Cooperation between business, academia, and government contributes faster, more effective, and more innovative solutions to this challenge.
- This program will seek and identify concrete ways to promote the business case for clean technology by holding a business plan competition for students to share innovative clean technology ideas. Participating students should be able to demonstrate business cases based on innovative ideas in clean technology, showcase ways to turn those ideas into reality in the future.
- The program could be implemented through a series of in-person, virtual, and hybrid format events. Elements of the program should include promoting the development and deployment of clean energy technologies. Participating students will be asked to submit an executive summary of their business cases outlining their proposal, assessing its impact, and describing how it would be commercially viable. Selected entries will be asked to develop their idea and present a pitch deck to be reviewed by prospective investors from both Japan and United States. Finalists will receive training and mentoring from private sector experts from the environmental, entrepreneurial, and science sectors and participate in a final bootcamp where they will present a 10-minute pitch.
- Proposals should include all costs associated with the program, including:
- Participants’ travel expenses (round-trip international airfares, domestic travel expenses, hotel and accommodation fees)
- Venue and technical costs for events
- Interpretation fees
