Deadline: 17-Nov-23
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking applications for the Development of Innovative Informatics Methods and Algorithms for Cancer Research and Management program.
Purpose
- The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to invite Exploratory/Developmental Research grant applications for innovative informatics methods and algorithms to improve the acquisition, analysis, visualization, or interpretation of data across the cancer research continuum. As a component of the NCI’s Informatics Technology for Cancer Research (ITCR) Program, the emphasis of this FOA is on supporting the development of novel informatics capabilities that involve a high degree of innovation and that have the potential to accelerate or enhance cancer research. To be successful, there must be a clear rationale for how the proposed informatics method or algorithm is novel and how it will benefit the cancer research field.
Scope
- This FOA invites applications that involve the development of highly innovative methods and algorithms that support a wide range of cancer research, including discovery biology, population studies, as well as clinical and translational research. The emphasis will be on innovation and potential impact on cancer research. In addition, all projects proposed in response to this FOA must involve the following general attributes:
- Capabilities that are potentially transformative for a cancer-relevant field of research
- Potential to be widely-adopted by the relevant cancer research community
- Innovation either in the method/algorithm developed or in how the method/algorithm is modified and taken from one field and applied in another
- Responsive Technologies and Scientific Scope:
- Some examples of needs that may be appropriate to this FOA include but are not limited to those listed below:
- Data acquisition methods, such as for laboratory equipment, wearable devices, and questionnaires;
- Data mining, data visualization, and data analysis;
- Data processing such as data compression, data provenance, and data wrangling;
- Data annotation;
- Data integration and workflow methods;
- Statistical methods, graph, and network theory approaches, and machine learning methods;
- Natural language processing and text mining;
- Clinical decision support and treatment planning;
- Methods to support next-generation clinical trials and clinical trial matching;
- Behavioral intervention;
- Interactive modeling and simulation.
- Some examples of needs that may be appropriate to this FOA include but are not limited to those listed below:
Funding Information
- NCI intends to fund an estimate of 5 awards, corresponding to a total of $1,020,000, for fiscal year 2024.
- The combined budget for direct costs for the two-year project period may not exceed $275,000. No more than $200,000 may be requested in any single year.
- The maximum project period is two years.
