Nominations are now open for the Deep Tech Award for innovative products and solutions from Berlin, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The Deep Tech Award is the annual highlight of the information and communications technology calendar in Berlin. Launched in 2015 by the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, the award honours outstanding achievements by companies and start-ups based in Berlin.
It commends market-ready software or hardware solutions and products that are distinguished by a high degree of innovation and great promise.

Prize Money
- The competition is endowed with a total of up to 50,000 euros in prize money (financed by funds from the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises as well as funds from the EU/ ERDF ).
- A “Deep Tech Star” and 10,000 euros will be awarded for each of the five Deep Tech categories. The winners of the “Deep Tech Star” each receive a certificate and an award sculpture. You can advertise in your marketing measures both with the provided “Deep Tech Star” logo and by stating the year of the Deep Tech Award.
- In addition to the prize money, there are intangible prizes up for grabs for the winners and finalists, including annual memberships with some partners.
- The award winners and their products and solutions can also present themselves in articles and interviews on the campaign website of the organizer.
Conditions of Participation
- Companies based in the State of Berlin that submit a solution/product that was primarily developed in Berlin are admitted to the competition.
- Submissions from small and medium-sized companies are expressly encouraged. They are looking for application-oriented and market- tested solutions and products based on software and/or hardware that are characterized by a high degree of innovation and great future potential. The evaluation by the independent jury takes the following criteria into account:
- Presentation of the innovation
- Innovative content of the contribution
- Purpose and added value of the solution for the users
- Business model
- Quality of the business model
- Scalability of the solution and market potential
- Market positioning
- Presentation of the innovation
Note: For the Sustainable & Social Impact category, the criterion “social and/or ecological impact” is also evaluated. From the submissions received, three Deep Tech finalists will be nominated for each category. If too few submissions are received in each category, the organizer of the award, reserve the right to suspend the category in question and thus not award an award in the category. The prerequisite for receiving the prize money is the fulfillment of the legal requirements for state aid according to the so-called “de minimis rule”.
