BITE of Art has announced a call for young emerging artists to engage into shaping a future of European continent and address environmental and climate change issues through socially engaging contemporary visual art performances.
They are looking to support preparation, production, exhibition, and promotion of 4 socially engaging contemporary visual art performances produced by young emerging artists coming from various European countries. These performances should address challenges and issues related to environment and climate change and will be performed on the streets of Ljubljana, Slovenia, within the festival “A Future of Europe: Code GREEN”, from 9th to 13th of October 2023. All performances will be recorded and became a part of the permanent BITE Art Tour: Ljubljana edition, accessible to the visitors through BITE of Art application.
The BITE of Art 2.0 project is co-funded by the EU and represents a joint vision of cultural institutions and organizations coming from Spain, Slovenia, Belgium, and Serbia to bring innovative practices into work of cultural operators, and indirectly to contemporary artists, shaping a path for mainstreaming contemporary art among young citizens.
Aim of the call: to support expression of young emerging artists in addressing social challenges through socially engaging contemporary art performances, engaging young people into dialogue and discussion about environment challenges and climate change.
Why to apply?
- The Winners take it all:
- They will give you all support in preparation and production of your socially engaging performances. Firstly, through the finetuning process of preparation of the performances and secondly by financing the artwork’s production costs in the amount of up to 1000 EUR (gross amount).
- Your winning contemporary visual art performance will be performed on the streets of Ljubljana, as a part of the festival “A Future of Europe: Code Green”, attracting hundreds of visitors. Expenses of artist’s participation at the festival will be covered by the BITE of Art initiative.
- They will provide you with finetuning master classes at the Festival delivered by the established and recognized artists and professionals in the field of contemporary visual art.
- Implemented performances will be recorded through the augmented reality technology and become part of the first BITE Art Tour: Ljubljana Edition, that will be permanently accessible to the visitors through BITE of Art application. This way, reach of artistic performances will be extended to thousands of people visiting Ljubljana each year.
- Prior and after the implementation of performances, they will be widely promoted through the attractive BITE of Art communication channels, with wide outreach across Europe.
Eligible Countries
- EU countries, Norway, Island, Liechtenstein, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Turkey.
Eligibility Criteria
- The Applicant could be:
- Young artist or art student coming from the European countries that are part of the Creative Europe programme (EU + EFTA countries part of EEA + Balkan countries).
- Organized or non-organized artistic group (maximum 3 members) of young artists from eligible European countries.
- The artist, author of the proposed socially engaged artwork/performance must not be older than 35 years, must be artist or student of art faculty.
- The proposed artwork must comply with the Basic artwork’s regulations.
- Artist/s must be able to come to the festival “A Future of Europe: Code GREEN” in the period from 9th to 13th of October and implement their performance. All expenses (travel, accommodation, meal and materials) of artists participation at the Festival will be covered by the project.
Basic artwork’s regulations
- The proposed performances could be part of the artist’s existing opus or start of the new reflections.
- Message of the artworks should aim on rising awareness about challenges and issues related to environmental protection and climate change.
- Proposed performance or artistic installations should present contemporary visual art and be interactive in its core, allowing for audience to engage into its implementation.
- Must have technical ability to be implemented/exhibited on open air, on the streets of Ljubljana.
- Performance could be proposed by single young emerging artist or a group of up to 3 young emerging artists.
- The author of the performance must be an artist or an art student within the age range from 18 to 35 years old.
Timeline
- Jurying of the received applications: 10th of July – 31st of July 2023
- Publication of the awarded applicants: 1st of August 2023
- Preparation and/or production of the performances: 2nd of August – 8 th of October 2023
- Festival and implementation of performances: 9th of October – 13th of October 2023
