The Centre for Health, Human Rights and Development seeks to support a group of young females affiliated to organisations in the areas of Advocacy, Gender and Climate Change, Public speaking and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights as part of its mentorship program.
This mentorship program intends to make it easier for young female leaders to tap into the wealth of knowledge of those with more experience in the above areas and gain skill.
This mentorship programme is part of CEHURD’s project entitled “For an Intergenerational and Creative Ugandan Feminist Movement” that aims to support Ugandan feminist organizations in implementing concrete actions as a follow-up to the Generation Equality Forum (GEF) as well as. strengthening intergenerational links between these organizations in the areas of coalition development capacity building and peer learning.
The proposed mentorship programme will last for a period of four (4) months effective August and ending November 2023.
CEHURD therefore seeks applications from suitably qualified young and ambitious young female leaders who would wish to benefit from this program to apply for the same.
Focus Areas
- Feminist concepts – Feminism involves the belief in full social, economic, and political equality for women.
- Advocacy – This involves getting support from another person to help you express your views and wishes, and help you stand up for your rights.
- Public Speaking – This involves the process of communicating information to a live audience. The type of information communicated is deliberately structured to inform, persuade, and entertain.
- Climate change/eco-systems – Climate change is a long-term change in the average weather patterns that have come to define Earth’s local, regional and global climates.
- SRHR and bodily autonomy – SRHR is more than just reproductive health. This involves access to information to make right decisions, choice, consent, bodily autonomy and integrity, sexuality education (SE), and so much more are part of what makes up SRHR.
- Gender based violence – involves harmful acts directed at an individual based on their gender.
Qualifications
- Eligible applicants for the programme shall be expected to have the following qualifications.
- Mentees/ Applicant
- Mentees should be from constituencies where sub-grantees are working and where coalition leaders are working. These areas include; Kampala and surrounding areas, Mbale, Kamwenge and Zombo.
- Mentees should be from or affiliated to a young women’s organisations working on Gender Based Violence, climate change and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
- Mentees should have an interest and a one years’ experience in Gender Based Violence, climate change, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
- Mentees should be between 18 to 35 years of age.
- Mentees should be interested in advocacy for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights at national, subnational and international levels.
- Mentees should be willing and available for various engagements in the 4 months of this mentorship program.
