UNHCR Ukraine is currently inviting all interested organizations to submit their proposals for the new Project “Community Empowerment and Social Assistance to Refugees and Asylum-seekers” to be implemented in Odesa and Odesa oblast during the period of April-December 2018.
Ukraine is a signatory to the 1951 Geneva Convention on Refugees and has relevant national legislative and procedural framework, but provides only very limited material assistance to refugees and asylum seekers. Under its mandate, UNHCR provides material assistance as well as legal advice and other support to person of concern (PoC) in order to enable them to live in safety and dignity in Ukraine.
Based on assessed needs, UNHCR whishes to improve its support to refugees and asylum seekers living in urban and rural areas of Odesa oblast through a social assistance project that effectively addresses and reduces vulnerabilities of the identified communities, in line with UNHCR strategic priorities.
Activities
Following activities are envisioned within the Project:
- Support to access primary health care services;
- Material support and counselling to the vulnerable persons of concern;
- Social and psychological counselling for refugees and asylum seekers with psychosocial needs;
- Support to access education and learning for children and adults;
- Assistance with integration in Ukraine, including provision of language classes and computer literacy;
- Support community groups in building their capacities to address their protection risks.
