Rise Up has announced a call for applications to select a group of adolescents from their partner and allied organizations who have demonstrated a strong commitment to other girls to participate in “Girls’ Voices Initiative.”
This initiative will amplify the voices and power of adolescent girls through capacity building in human rights and advocacy.
The girls will participate in a 5-day workshop from January 25 to 29, 2019 in Panajachel, Sololá, which will focus on leadership development, advocacy, political mapping, community organization, public speaking, and media advocacy and networking.
After the workshop, each leader will build the capacity of a minimum of 20 adolescent leaders in their community and will have the opportunity to request funds to implement a small project to advocate for their priority rights in their communities.
Criteria
- Participation criteria for adolescent leaders:
- The female applicants must meet the following selection criteria:
- Be between 11 and 17 years of age.
- Being affiliated with a partner organization of Levantemos that supports applicant’s request and participation.
- Passion for leadership and empowerment of adolescents.
- Have received any prior training in leadership, rights, advocacy, or other relevant issues.
- Be willing and available to participate in a 5-day workshop on leadership and advocacy.
- Commit to sharing what has been learned with other girls and women.
- Availability of time to travel to Panajachel to be every day in the training.
- Personal interest and commitment in promoting positive changes in programs and policies that affect opportunities economic and educational, human rights, health, and well-being of girls, adolescents and young women.
- Adolescents from Las Niñas Lideran (LNL) networks, from alidadas organizations and organizations can apply platform for scholars and girls who have participated in the Adolescent Voices initiative in the past.

- Participation criteria for affiliated organizations:
- To be considered for the “Voices of Adolescents” Initiative, aspiring organizations must satisfy the following selection criteria:
- Be part of Rise Up’s network of fellows (as), be an organization allied, affiliated or known by their program or any of their scholars (as)
- Be legally registered as a non-governmental organization before the Government of Guatemala
- Regulated by a Board of Directors or other formal administrative structure
- Committed to the development and rights of adolescent girls
- Commit to provide support to the adolescent (s) selected with the organization to carry out the activities for the Initiative, including:
- Provide support to complete the application process.
- Provide support as necessary for their dissemination trainings.
- Provide support for the formulation of a proposal and possible subsequent implementation of a small project
- Provide support in the administration of resources. – Any other type of support, as necessary.
- Be willing and delegate one (adult WOMAN older than 18 years) from among her staff to attend a 5-day workshop on leadership and advocacy as a companion for the aspiring adolescents, and participate in the activities of the workshop from 25 to 29 January 2019. Preferably this person should not be a Las Niñas Líderan Scholar.
- Each organization may sponsor the request of up to 5 adolescents each, but no more than 2 adolescents will be selected by organization to be part of the “Voices of Adolescents” Initiative. A complete application must be submitted for each Teen
