Applicants are invited to submit applications for REACT Africa Sub-Saharan Competition in Mali to reduce poverty through a transformational increase in the use of renewable energy by off-grid households in target country.
Its outcome will be private sector investment and innovation in clean, low-cost energy and climate change catalyzed on a large scale.
REACT Sub-SaharanAfrica (REACT SSA) is a project of SEK 521 612 000 funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) to support renewable energy in sub-Saharan Africa; with dedicated funding from SEK 50 000 000 (about US $ 6.5 million) for Mali.
Target Domains
Applicants must provide good quality and affordable clean energy products and services that benefit the rural and peri-urban poor, especially women.
This should correspond to one or more of the following areas of interest to be eligible for funding:
- Small pico-VP solar lanterns, including lighting and phone charging.
- Small and basic solar home systems (less than 50Wp), including basic lighting, phone charging systems and radios, available to a large number of households (but not limited to ) through pay-as-you-go systems.
- Self-contained solar home systems of average capacity (50-100Wp) for productive use, including phone charging systems, radio, appliances, etc. and which can be used on a small scale in rural or peri-urban enterprises or on household premises.
- Stand-alone solar energy systems (100+ Wp) that meet all energy needs of households and businesses, while remaining affordable for low-income people.
- Mini and micro-networks from solar energy, with distribution networks that meet all the needs of households and businesses, while remaining affordable for people with low incomes.
- Production / Production and / or distribution of energy efficient cooking solutions, p. Eg improved stoves and cleaner fuels (eg ethanol and biogas) for low-income people in rural and peri-urban areas.
- Production and / or distribution models that support local entrepreneurship and the growth of SMEs, MFIs / local banks and women’s groups in a supply and demand chain for renewable energy products.
- High-potential standalone equipment solutions for off-grid productive uses (eg, solar pumping, cooling solutions for agriculture).
- Large off-grid energy solutions for public and private institutions such as schools and clinics in peri-urban and rural areas.
- Business models that deal with the sustainable management of electronic waste in the industry
Funding Information
The total amount of grants requested from AECF must be between US $ 100,000 and US $ 1,500,000.
Duration of the Program
5 years (year 1 for the launch phase + competition phase, years 2 to 5 for the implementation phase). REACT SSA is funded by AIDS.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant’s company is a private company operating in the areas of financing and target technologies.
- Applicant’s company is legally registered and physically established in Mali
- Applicant’s project idea will be implemented in Mali.
- Applicant’s company (including third parties such as co-investors or banks and other lenders) provides at least 25% of the funds requested to AECF. Counterpart funds will be fully cash.
- The project is expected to provide high-quality, affordable and affordable clean energy products and services for the benefit of rural, peri-urban poor or displaced (especially women).
- Applicants must demonstrate that the project will contribute to environmental sustainability, including environmental and climate aspects.
- Applicant’s company must comply with fundamental national and international human rights, labor standards, environmental management laws.
- Applicant’s company should NOT be involved in an act of terrorism or support the activities of terrorists and allow regular due diligence in this regard.
