The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is seeking applications from eligible U.S. non-profit nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), for-profit NGOs willing to forgo their fee, private voluntary organizations (PVOs), Papua New Guinea (PNG)-based NGOs, universities, foundations, consortia, and international organizations for a Cooperative Agreement to implement a five-year program tentatively entitled “PNG Biodiversity Program.”
USAID seeks to reduce the primary drivers and threats to biodiversity in PNG by strengthening management of customary lands that include areas of exceptional terrestrial and marine biodiversity. To support this goal, this five-year, $19 million program will work at the national and local levels to strengthen the policies and build the capacity needed to implement systems that support improved customary management of lands. The program will also implement activities that reduce significant threats to biodiversity in priority places.
Goals
- National and provincial-level governance strengthened to better manage protected areas.
- Community-based Natural Resource Management (NRM) institutions strengthened at the clan level to reduce key biodiversity threats.
- Alliances formed to support conservation activities with co-benefits.
Funding Information
- USAID intends to provide $19,000,000 in total USAID funding over a five-year period.
- The start date will be upon the signature of the award, estimated on or about June 2019.
Eligible Applicants
To be considered eligible to apply under this NOFO, Applicant must either be:
- A U.S. non-profit nongovernmental organization (NGO), for-profit organization willing to forgo its fee, private voluntary organization (PVO), Papua New Guinea-based NGO, foundation, consortium, university/college, or an international organization.
- Individuals are not eligible to apply.
- Eligible organizations that have not previously received financial assistance from USAID are encouraged to submit applications.
