Deadline: 14-Jun-2024
Applications are now open for the 2024 Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants, funded by the Victorian Government’s Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.
The Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants provides funding for projects that involve and educate young people in valuing and actively caring for Victoria’s biodiversity and natural environment.
Priorities for Funding – Focus Areas
- These grants provide young Victorians with an opportunity to participate in biodiversity focused projects under two focus areas. Projects can focus on one of the two areas or a combination of both. Biodiversity includes the variety of plants, animals, insects, and all living things in the natural environment.
- Focus Area 1: Biodiversity focused education activities: educating, involving, and engaging young people in valuing and actively caring for Victoria’s biodiversity and natural environment.
- Some examples of projects that fit under this focus area include a biodiversity-focused educational incursion by a scientist, an excursion to an education program at a wildlife sanctuary or students collecting Waterwatch data to monitor water quality of a local creek.
- Focus Area 2: Biodiversity focused on-ground projects: engaging young people to improve biodiversity through creating, enhancing, or restoring habitat for Victoria’s native plants and animals.
- These types of projects could include planting indigenous vegetation at a school to improve habitat for Victoria’s native animals, removing weeds to address threats to biodiversity, or working with a local Landcare group on a project at a Council managed reserve.
- These grants support the delivery of Protecting Victoria’s Environment – Biodiversity 2037, Victoria’s 20-year plan to stop the decline of the native plants and animals and improve the natural environment.
- The grants are funded through DEECA’s Victorian Landcare Program and administered by Landcare Australia as part of its national Junior Landcare Grants program.
