The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking qualified organizations to apply for a grant to build capacity in green energy solutions for 200 young women graduating from Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) studies.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has initiated a flagship project to support national efforts of expanding affordable and sustainable energy access in Sierra Leone, particularly targeting rural communities. One of the components of the project is to empower young women in green energy, implement technical and vocational training programs to enhance their skills and knowledge in solar energy solutions, entrepreneurship, financial management, and digital technologies, so they can actively participate in the renewable energy sector and seize opportunities for economic empowerment.
Objective
- The main objective of the assignment is to build capacity 200 young women who have graduated from STEM studies in green energy solutions. Specifically, design and implement a training programme to develop practical skills and knowledge of young women seeking a professional future in green energy solutions focusing on solar installation and maintenance, digital information management systems to become certified solar practitioners.
Scope of Work
- The successful organization will implement capacity building programme in green energy solutions focusing on solar for 200 young women who have graduated from STEM studies under the overall guidance of UNDP. The successful organization will work with the UNDP Youth Technical Specialist on day-to-day basis, reporting to the Team Leader of Sustainable and Local Economic Development (SLED) Portfolio with overall guidance of the Deputy Resident Representative, UNDP.
- Specifically, the following are required services:
- Mobilize 200 young women graduated from STEM studies.
- Conduct a capacity needs assessment for the selected young women.
- Based on the identified gaps, design customized training modules in line with the outcome for the capacity needs assessment.
- Deliver training programme to 200 young women in green energy solutions focusing on solar installation and maintenance, digital information management systems to become certified solar practitioners. and provide mentorship support.
Funding Information
- Financial proposal which should include all costs related to delivering the assignment with a budget of up to US $150,000.
- The expected duration of the assignment is 4 months.
Qualifications
- The following are the required qualifications of the prospective organization:
- Should be a Non-profit national organization (CSO/CBO/NGO/Foundation/Academia)
- Eligible organization should have specialized expertise in provision of similar of implementing capacity building initiatives in green energy solutions focusing on solar installation and maintenance, digital information management systems, and mentorship support.
- Experience of at least 5 years in implementing initiatives with similar scope and nature is required.
- Prospective organization should have appropriate training facilities.
- Prospective organization should be registered in accordance with the legal requirements of the Government of Sierra Leone.
- Prospective organizations may submit a joint proposal as coalitions. In this case, main applicant must provide support letters from relevant co-applicant specifying their respective role. In case of a joint proposal, the main applicant shall have proven experience in the proposed area of programming for the grant.
- The prospective organization should dedicate a team of at least 3 technical experts (one of which should be a team leader) for implementation of the required assignment including:
- Technical Expert – Team Leader:
- Qualified Solar Engineer.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Business Administration and Management, entrepreneurship, development studies, engineering, energy/electrical engineering, or related field.
- 3 years of professional experience, strong general knowledge and expertise in training, entrepreneurship development
- 3 years of experience working, mentoring and providing capacity development to youth and women.
- Two (2) Technical Experts (other than the team leader):
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration and management, entrepreneurship, development studies, engineering, energy/electrical engineering, or equivalent and related field.
- Certification in Solar installation and maintenance.
- 3 years of professional experience, strong knowledge, and expertise in training. 3 years of experience working, mentoring, and providing capacity development to youth, women and/or MSMEs.
