The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) is accepting applications for Justice for Families Program to support activities to improve the response of the civil and criminal justice system to families with a history of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking, or in cases involving child sexual abuse.
Activities should improve the capacity of courts and communities to respond to families through court-based and court-related programs; supervised visitation and safe exchange by and between parents; training for people who work with families in the court system; and civil legal assistance.
Focus Areas
- Funds under this program must be used for one or more of five statutory purpose areas as described below. Although the statute contains eight distinct purpose areas, OVW is limiting applicants to the following five purpose areas:
- Supervised visitation and safe exchange;
- Training for court-based and court-related personnel;
- Court and court-based programs and services;
- Civil legal assistance; and
- Training within the civil justice system.
Funding Information
- Expected total amount of funding: $14,000,000
- Expected award amounts standard projects: up to $600,000
- Comprehensive projects: up to $700,000
- Anticipated number of awards: 20
- Expected award period: 36 months.
Eligibility Criteria
- City or township governments
- County governments
- Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments)
- State governments
- Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
- Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)
- States and territories, units of local government, Indian tribal governments, courts (including juvenile courts), victim service providers, nonprofit organizations, and legal service providers.
