Deadline: 24-Oct-20
The call for applications for Wetlands for the Future projects for the 2020 cycle is now open.
Since 1997, the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar, Iran, 1971), the United States State Department, and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service have operated a special initiative, the Wetlands for the Future (WFF) training programme, to benefit Latin American and the Caribbean institutions and individuals through capacity building and training in the conservation and wise use of wetlands.
This initiative promotes the implementation of the concept of “wise use” of wetlands through strengthening the capacity of countries to manage their wetland resources in perpetuity and contributing to integrate wetland conservation and management with the development process.
The sponsors of WFF wish to establish partnerships with training institutions, catalyze wetland training activities currently underway or planned within the region, or complement existing training and education initiatives with wetland-related instruction.
Eligibility Criteria
- All Contracting Parties within the Latin America and the Caribbean Region of the Ramsar Convention and Mexico have access to the Fund. Priority will be given to Contracting Parties that are current in their contributions to the core budget of the Ramsar Convention, and to Contracting Parties that have not previously received WFF funding, especially Caribbean and Central American countries.
- Countries that are not Party to the Ramsar Convention (non-Contracting Parties) are also eligible to apply for assistance to allow them to progress toward accession to the Ramsar Convention or to respond to natural emergencies.
- National, State, provincial, or local government agencies, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations of eligible Contracting and non-Contracting Parties may apply. Grants CANNOT be given to individuals or for-profit organizations.
