The Thomson Reuters Foundation is currently offering a training course on labor migration for journalists. This is an opportunity to ensure that the rights of migrant workers are protected according to international labor standards.
In this training course, you will have the opportunity to improve your skills in basic journalism principles, including building article structure, sourcing information, valuing news, and following newspaper ethics. Releases are presented by one of the leading media agencies in the world. You will also have the opportunity to learn more about the key stakeholders in labor migration and the impact of hiring and related costs on migrant workers, as well as the relationship of This is a problem of debt dependency, forced labor, and human trafficking. In the context that Law No. 72 is being revised, this is an appropriate time for you to improve your professional skills in this field.
The training will be organized in both Vietnamese and English.
Funding Information
- Selected candidates will receive full support including travel to and from the training site in Ha Long City, accommodation, and accommodation during the training.
Eligibility Criteria
To participate in training, you must meet the following conditions:
- Be a professional journalist;
- Activities in the field of print, radio, television or electronic newspapers;
- At least one year of professional experience;
- Working full-time for a newspaper unit, or as a freelance worker with the main job being journalism;
- Commit to writing / producing at least one article/work, which will be published/broadcast on the unit’s media/radio publications.
Submissions
When signing up to participate, please prepare the following documents to include:
- A brief resume (maximum 250 words);
- Three articles (web links or PDFs) including the author’s name;
- A short paragraph explaining the reason or motivation for attending the training (maximum 250 words);
- Confirmation from the unit of your agreement to participate in the program and commitment to publish/broadcast at least one work.
- For freelance journalists, the record must be accompanied by a confirmation from the media unit with whom you collaborate will publish/broadcast a work made in this program.
