Deadline: 30-Sep-25
The King Baudouin Foundation has opened a call for grant applications aimed at supporting citizens and organizations dedicated to building a better society. This initiative is designed to encourage and strengthen innovative projects that serve the public interest in Belgium.
The Foundation plays a key role in raising funds to back such initiatives, and importantly, donations made by Belgian donors toward these project accounts are tax deductible.
To be eligible, a project must be clearly defined, non-profit in nature, and aligned with the mission of the King Baudouin Foundation. The initiative should be unique and specific, with a well-outlined scope, objectives, timeline, budget, and a clear set of involved partners.
It should be aimed at benefiting the general public and be both realistic and achievable within the available human, technical, and financial capacities.
However, not all types of projects qualify. The Foundation does not support general administrative or staffing costs, or proposals that simply cover routine operational expenses of an organization.
Also excluded are one-off events such as concerts, trips, or holiday weekends; training courses and workshops; recurring publications like newsletters or magazines; restoration of unprotected historical buildings; and production of media content such as films, CDs, or DVDs. Additionally, scientific research projects fall outside the scope of this funding opportunity.
Eligible applicants must be based in Belgium and include non-profit associations (vzw), de facto associations, private or public utility foundations, and local communities such as municipalities or church councils.
These organizations must be dedicated to non-profit activities that serve the public interest. Recognized and government-funded schools in the Flemish, French, or German-speaking communities of Belgium are also eligible to apply.
Applicants should not be lobby or pressure groups and must be capable of managing their own fundraising efforts. This includes having a working secretariat, an action plan, and a network for outreach.
While the applicants cannot issue tax certificates themselves, the Foundation can facilitate this for donors through its project accounts. Lastly, organizations must demonstrate strong motivation, experience, and the expertise necessary to carry out their proposed project effectively.
This grant opportunity offers an excellent platform for civic-minded groups and institutions to bring transformative ideas to life and contribute meaningfully to the development of a fairer, more inclusive society.
