The U.S. Mission to the African Union is pleased to announce that funding is available through its Small Grants Program.
The U.S. partnership with the African Union (AU) focuses on advancing peace and security; promoting economic growth, trade, and investment; strengthening global health security; and fostering shared goals.
To this end, the U.S. Mission to the African Union will implement public diplomacy initiatives that address these priorities to make America safer, stronger and more prosperous.
Objectives
- USAU PD invites proposals for projects that strengthen ties between the United States and the African Union by highlighting shared values and promoting cooperation.
- Grant proposals must convey an American cultural element, support a priority program area or include a connection with American expert(s), organization(s), or institution(s) in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives.
Focus Areas
- The proposal must address one of the following priority areas:
- Highlighting U.S.-AU cooperation
- Countering terrorism and extremism
- Strengthening institutions
- Ensure fair economic and trade relationships
- Promoting leadership and entrepreneurship in science and technology
- Encouraging English language learning
- Advancing economic prosperity
- Journalism capacity building and/or expanding media literacy
- Spotlight on Americas achievements, innovation, and leadership
Funding Information
- Grant amount: awards may range from a minimum of $5000 to a maximum of $50,000
- Duration: 6 to 12 months

- CSO Registered Not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/nongovernmental organizations

- Cultural Institutions
- Public and private educational institutions
- Public International Organizations and Governmental institutions
- Individuals

- Please ensure:
- The proposal clearly addresses the goals and objectives of this funding opportunity
- All documents are in English
- All budgets are in U.S. dollars
- All pages are numbered
- All documents are formatted to 8 ½ x 11 paper, and
- All Microsoft Word documents are single-spaced, 12-point Calibri font, with a minimum of 1-inch margins.
