Deadline: 11-Aug-2025
The Waste Authority is currently accepting applications for the WasteSorted Community Education Grant Program, which aims to support eligible organisations in delivering education projects that contribute to Western Australia’s waste strategy goals. These projects should help raise community awareness and drive action around better waste management practices.
The primary objectives of the grant are aligned with the state’s waste strategy, focusing on avoiding waste, recovering more value and resources from solid waste, and protecting the environment. Projects must be well-planned, costed, and ready for immediate implementation.
Each project can receive a maximum grant of $25,000. Applications will be prioritised based on how well they support the strategy’s objectives and whether they focus on key materials such as plastics, paper and cardboard, organics (including food waste), construction and demolition waste, metals, glass, textiles, and non-domestic hazardous waste.
Projects that do not align with waste strategy priorities—such as those addressing unrelated environmental issues like air or water quality—will not be considered. Similarly, proposals that merely duplicate existing programs without adding value, involve capital purchases or land acquisition, or offer no direct benefit to the Western Australian community will be deemed ineligible.
To be eligible, projects must be implemented within Western Australia. Applicants can include incorporated not-for-profit organisations with an ABN, unincorporated groups applying through a qualified auspice body, businesses with at least one year of operation, local governments, regional councils, and research and education organisations (excluding schools).
However, individuals, unincorporated groups without an auspice, state government agencies, statutory authorities, schools, and applicants based on Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands are not eligible for this grant. (Note: WasteSorted Schools grants are available separately for school-specific projects.)
Applications will be assessed based on five evenly weighted criteria: project benefits, viability, capacity and capability of the applicant, value for money, and how effectively the project addresses focus materials. This funding presents a valuable opportunity to promote sustainability and make a meaningful impact in Western Australian communities.
