Deadline: 01-Sep-2025
Pro Helvetia is inviting grant applications for production with presentation in all areas of visual arts, specifically projects being presented for the first time. The maximum grant available is CHF 25,000.
To be eligible, projects must have a clear connection to Switzerland and be of nationwide importance. They should also be adequately co-funded by other public or private sources and guarantee fair working conditions. Eligible applicants include artists, photographers, and architects.
A connection to Switzerland is established if the project is developed or implemented by Swiss citizens or permanent residents actively involved in the country’s art scene. Alternatively, projects created by independent groups or cultural institutions based and active in Switzerland qualify. Nationwide relevance means the project reaches beyond its local region, either through involvement with nationally recognized institutions, exceptional artistic potential, significant contribution to Swiss culture, or facilitating exchange between Switzerland’s linguistic regions.
Pro Helvetia cannot fund projects already supported by other federal bodies or those that are part of academic curricula or basic training. Funding does not cover infrastructure, equipment, or operating costs of cultural facilities, archives, or collections. Projects must rely on Pro Helvetia funding for their realization.
Assessment focuses on the project’s independence, professional competence, social and thematic relevance, and whether it meets professional standards. Costs must match the expected impact, and the project should promise a lasting influence. The foundation values diversity, ecological responsibility, and sustainable planning in resource use and production.
Selection criteria prioritize artistic originality and quality, exhibition-based implementation, the project’s importance for the artist’s development, and a confirmed public presentation schedule.
Applications must include a detailed project description, implementation plan, and budget with all requested funding sources in a single PDF. Applicants should also submit a portfolio documenting work from the last three years, a CV listing prior exhibitions, and an invitation letter confirming the planned presentation.
