Deadline: 01-Oct-2025
The Kavli Prize invites nominations for scientists whose basic research has fundamentally transformed astrophysics, nanoscience, or neuroscience — covering the big, the small, and the complex. The prize celebrates breakthrough science worldwide and values diverse perspectives, encouraging nominators to consider gender, race, ethnicity, geography, and institutional variety.
Nominations are open in three categories: Astrophysics, Nanoscience, and Neuroscience. Each prize awards $1 million directly to the laureates. Anyone can nominate, but self-nominations are not accepted. Multiple nominations for different breakthroughs are welcomed, and nominations can be for individuals or shared among up to three people who contributed closely to the same discovery.
Nominations remain active for two additional cycles (four years), allowing nominators to update and resubmit their applications. Nominees must be living at the time of nomination.
The application process is straightforward and involves five steps. It requires submitting the nominee’s CV, a detailed nomination letter describing their work and impact, and optionally, reference letters. All materials must be submitted in English.
