Deadline: 09-Sep-2025
Applications are now open for the Strategic Research Grant Program, which aims to support personal mobility, knowledge transfer, and collaboration across sectors. The program encourages researchers to gain experience in a different sector and then return to their original organization, bringing valuable insights and expertise.
Eligible applicants include researchers from universities, research institutes, hospitals, industry, and government agencies. The program supports exchanges between academia or research institutes and industry, hospitals, or government bodies. Researchers must be well-established in their current positions, holding tenured or equivalent roles that ensure they will return after the exchange. Temporary or short-term contract holders are not eligible.
The visiting researcher must focus on strategic research in natural sciences, engineering, or medicine during the exchange. The program supports full-time work between four and twelve months, but this may be spread out over two years or conducted part-time. However, part-time exchanges of 25% or less will be considered of lower value compared to more extensive engagements.
Funding may include a repatriation grant up to SEK 500,000 and a total maximum grant of SEK 1.5 million, including overhead and up to SEK 100,000 for other expenses. The grant can cover the researcher’s full salary during the exchange, plus a small amount for additional costs.
Applications must include a detailed project description, names of key collaborators, and any other available funding. Declarations of intent from both the sending and receiving institutions are required, confirming the need for the exchange and outlining practical arrangements. Employment terms during the exchange must also be specified, such as sabbatical status or fixed-term employment by the host institution.
Evaluation criteria include the qualifications of the visiting researcher, the potential for cross-sector knowledge sharing, the engagement of both organizations, the strategic value of the exchange for Sweden, the quality of the project, and the absence of any inappropriate financial or personal dependencies.
Applicants must complete an electronic application, including descriptions of both the home and host environments, personal motivation, a CV, budget, project details, and the required declarations of intent.
