Deadline: 31-Aug-2025
The Allianz Climate Risk Award recognizes early-career scientists whose research illuminates the connection between climate change and extreme weather events. This award invites applicants to submit studies on how climate change and extreme weather impact global trade. Whether your work improves predictions of extreme weather along trade routes, analyzes trade network resilience to climate disruptions, or bridges climate science with trade economics, Allianz Trade experts want to hear from you.
A special 2025 category, the Allianz Trade Award, honors research specifically exploring the link between climate change, extreme weather, and global trade. Winners of both awards will receive €7,000, while other finalists will each get €3,000. Allianz Re and Allianz Trade cover travel costs for the top finalists to attend the award event in Munich, Germany, including transportation, hotel, and meals.
The award is open globally to PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers whose work focuses on understanding and mitigating risks from climate change–intensified extreme weather events and fostering resilience through technology. A jury of experts from academia and industry shortlists 10 applicants whose work is published on Allianz Re’s website. The top three finalists are invited to present their research in Munich.
Selection is based on innovation—how the research assesses natural catastrophe risks and uses technology to foster resilience; impact—its potential to influence insurance practices or societal resilience; applicability—addressing relevant problems with practical solutions; and academic excellence, including sound methodology. Eligible candidates include current PhD students, postdocs, and recent PhD graduates (within two years).
Applications require a non-technical essay on the research project, a recommendation letter from an academic mentor, a signed declaration form, a completed application form for the relevant award, and a CV.
