Deadline: 25-Jul-2025
ActionAid Kenya, in partnership with the European Union and under the grant management of UNFPA Kenya, is inviting proposals from grassroots, women-led, youth-led, survivor-led, and community-based organizations dedicated to ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Kenya.
This call is part of the Komesha FGM Sasa! program, an initiative led by UNFPA Kenya and funded by the European Union. The program aims to accelerate efforts to eliminate FGM in Kenya by 2026, in line with the national goal to end the harmful practice. It supports Kenya’s ongoing work in creating sustainable and community-driven solutions.
The key objectives of the program include strengthening community-led mechanisms for FGM prevention and response, increasing access to locally based support services, and enhancing the skills of frontline actors to advocate, manage cases, and drive social change. The program also promotes inclusive dialogues that amplify the voices of affected communities and encourage grassroots action.
The focus areas of the project include building the capacity of government and community leaders at both national and county levels, and expanding access to education on FGM and sexual and reproductive health through digital platforms and community-based services.
Each selected partner organization will receive KES 1,289,000 in funding. The program is looking for new or existing frontline organizations that are already respected in their communities for working on FGM and related issues such as early marriage, gender-based violence, and girls’ education. This includes women-led, youth-led, survivor-led, and inclusive groups that involve people with disabilities or work in remote areas where the risk of FGM may be higher.
Target counties for implementation include Isiolo (Isiolo Sub-County), Garissa (Lagdera Sub-County), Marsabit (Marsabit South), Wajir (Wajir East), Tharaka Nithi (Chuka-Igambang’ombe), West Pokot (Pokot Central), and Elgeyo Marakwet (Marakwet East).
Eligible applicants must be legally registered with the PBORA or County Department of Social Services, have a functioning leadership and financial structure (including a bank account), and demonstrate a strong track record or clear plan to impact communities in the targeted regions. Organizations must align with feminist values, prioritize child protection and safeguarding, and adhere to do-no-harm principles.
