Deadline: 30-Nov-2025
The Puey Ungphakorn Institute for Economic Research has launched a Targeted Research Grant program open to both Thai and international researchers. The initiative aims to support capable individuals in producing high-quality research on key issues relevant to the Thai economy, with the goal of publishing in international peer-reviewed journals.
The program seeks to promote research that aligns with the Bank of Thailand’s policy mission and PIER’s research priorities. Projects should be policy-relevant and based on rigorous academic standards, contributing new insights that can influence economic decision-making.
Each selected project can receive funding of up to THB 400,000 (approximately USD 12,300), with additional support available on a case-by-case basis, such as for data collection. Projects are generally expected to last around 12 months, though extensions may be granted when necessary.
Grant recipients must submit a full academic paper in English, which will be published as a PIER Discussion Paper. Eligible research topics must fall under areas defined by PIER, including inflation dynamics, monetary policy evaluation, labor productivity, household debt policies, financial system resilience, and climate risk impacts on firms.
Projects should have a strong research design, with a clear research question, solid methodology, and a comprehensive literature review. The research must be both original and applicable to current economic challenges in Thailand, with potential for peer-reviewed journal publication.
Applicants must demonstrate strong experience in economic research. CVs and publication lists are required for both principal and co-investigators. The program encourages applications from international researchers, PhD candidates, and early-career scholars.
Proposals go through an initial eligibility screening followed by a full review by a panel of one PIER researcher and two external experts. Evaluations are based on feasibility, academic quality, and policy relevance. Applicants will be notified of decisions about one month after the submission deadline.
