Deadline: 25-Jul-2025
The World Food Programme (WFP) Tajikistan is calling on registered national public organizations to submit proposals for establishing a community-based fish nursery in Hakimi village, Shahrinav district. This initiative is part of the “Tajikistan Food Security Safety Net Activity” and is designed to promote sustainable aquaculture as a resilience and livelihood strategy by creating valuable community assets.
The project focuses on sectors including education, food security through agricultural inputs, and livelihoods, particularly fisheries and aquaculture. The geographic focus is on Tajikistan’s Districts of Republican Subordination, with direct impact targeted in the Shahrinav District.
The main goal is to boost food security and provide better livelihood opportunities by setting up a fish nursery that will incubate and distribute trout fingerlings. It will also offer technical training to local farmers and improve access to affordable, protein-rich food sources. The activity is expected to increase food availability, benefit 20 to 30 smallholder fish farmers, and contribute to restoring the endangered Amu Darya trout population through the release of fingerlings into public water bodies.
The nursery will serve as a model for sustainable, community-led aquaculture and help strengthen local skills in fish farming and nursery management. Proposals will be evaluated based on sector expertise, local presence, cost-effectiveness, relevance to the expected results, and the feasibility of implementation plans and timelines.
