Deadline: 02-Sep-2025
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is accepting applications for its Accessible Vehicle Funding program, which helps individuals and families adapt personal vehicles for accessibility. This initiative is part of the province’s commitment to promoting inclusion and enhancing mobility for persons with disabilities.
The program aims to ease financial burdens by offering support toward the cost of making vehicles accessible. This may include installing hand controls, lifts, ramps, or other necessary equipment that allows easier use of personal vehicles by people with disabilities.
Only residents of Newfoundland and Labrador are eligible for this funding. Applicants can receive support once every five years, although exceptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Each household can adapt only one personal vehicle under the program. Applicants who have received similar funding from other government sources are not eligible. Vehicles must be purchased or retrofitted in Canada, with rare exceptions for full conversions not possible domestically.
The funding provides a maximum of $50,000, based on either the cost of a new retrofit or the current value of an existing one. Eligible expenses include customized seating, steering devices, hand controls, lifts, ramps, door and floor modifications, wheelchair securing systems, shipping, installation, and maintenance of out-of-warranty equipment.
Applications are assessed on whether they meet the funding objectives, fulfill the eligibility requirements, and if funding is available. Applicants who are not approved will be notified in writing and may request feedback. Those who submit incomplete applications will also be informed in writing and given a chance to provide missing documents within a set timeframe.
