Mama Cash is inviting feminist activists in the Netherlands and on the ABCSSS islands—Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St. Eustatius, and St. Maarten—to apply for the Spark Fund grant. This opportunity supports emerging feminist groups that are self-led and working to secure the rights of women, girls, trans people, and intersex people.
The grants aim to empower bold activism that addresses systemic inequality and discrimination. Eligible projects must be led by the people most affected by the issues they focus on. For example, a group advocating for the rights of women with disabilities must be led and represented by women with disabilities themselves.
Mama Cash funds work that takes a feminist approach by challenging patriarchal norms, addressing sexism, and defending the human rights of marginalized gender identities. Projects must place the lived experiences and needs of women, girls, and trans and intersex people at the center of their efforts. For instance, a housing project will qualify only if it is specifically designed around the barriers these groups face in accessing safe and affordable housing.
The fund also supports activism that addresses urgent and contested political issues. An example includes Muslim women advocating for their right to wear religious coverings in a context where such expressions are under political or public scrutiny.
Moreover, the Spark Fund seeks to promote structural and systemic change. Groups that not only meet immediate needs, like providing shelter for migrant women, but also work to dismantle deeper barriers to access—such as healthcare or housing—are encouraged to apply.
Funding per project ranges from €5,000 to €7,000. Priority is given to new or informal groups with limited resources, such as those without paid staff or with an annual budget under €50,000. To be eligible, groups must be self-led, work from a feminist or rights-based perspective, focus on urgent political issues in the target regions, and strive for long-term systemic transformation.
