Deadline: 15-Aug-2025
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is inviting applications for its program focused on Accountability to Affected Populations, Emergency Response, and Public Health Interventions in Fiji. This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen community resilience and improve health outcomes during disasters and public health crises.
Since July 2023, UNICEF has worked in partnership with the Fiji Council of Social Services (FCOSS) to promote accountability and preparedness across communities. A key achievement of this collaboration was the development and launch of a digital Community Feedback Mechanism (CFM), introduced during National Disaster Awareness Week in October 2024. The CFM utilizes tools like Viber, Facebook Messenger, SMS, and in-person channels to collect community feedback, making emergency responses more inclusive and responsive to public concerns.
Building on its success, the program expanded in 2025 to address broader development and public health issues. Key focus areas include increasing demand for immunization services in underserved areas, promoting nutrition to combat rising childhood and adolescent obesity, and engaging faith leaders and youth to encourage healthy behaviors within communities.
The initiative also supports data collection through an HIV Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice (KAP) survey to design targeted interventions, especially for high-risk groups. Other priorities include raising awareness and preventing HIV and substance abuse through life skills education and outreach, particularly aimed at adolescents and vulnerable populations.
The program spans multiple sectors, including communication for development, health in emergencies, immunization, and both general and emergency nutrition. Its expected results include stronger community trust in emergency response systems, greater transparency in resource distribution, and improved coordination through shared data. A key goal is also to maintain a scalable and inclusive digital feedback system.
UNICEF anticipates outcomes such as improved community engagement via AAP and CFM, increased collaboration with religious leaders, HIV and substance abuse prevention, and integrated community health support during emergencies. Activities will take place across the Northern, Western, and Eastern regions of Fiji.
