Deadline: 30-Sep-2025
The Paul Mellon Centre offers Exhibition Publication Grants each autumn to help organisations cover the costs of producing publications related to exhibitions. These grants are designed to support the creation of exhibition catalogues focused on British art and architecture that might not otherwise be published, or would be produced to a lower standard without this support.
A maximum of £6,000 is available per grant, paid in one instalment to the applying organisation. Only one application can be submitted for each publication. The grant can be used to cover various production costs such as printing and binding, design and layout, image licensing and copyright fees, graphics, indexing, editing, production, new photography commissions, and marketing or publicity.
This funding programme supports initiatives that enhance research, education, and knowledge dissemination in British art and architectural history from the medieval period to the present. Its scope includes work by British artists or art made in Britain, as well as broader subjects tied to the artistic and cultural history of Britain. However, the programme does not support field archaeology, current architectural practice, or the performing arts. Projects in photography, film, performance, or digital media must show clear relevance to British art studies.
Only applications from organisations or publishers producing publications for or after an exhibition are eligible. The publication must be ready to go to press by January 2028. Projects for books already published, books scheduled for release before the end of 2025, new or revised editions, translations, or open-access publishing costs are not eligible.
Once the publication is complete, a copy must be sent to the Paul Mellon Centre. The Centre must also be properly acknowledged in the publication, and successful applicants will receive detailed guidance on how to do this.
