Deadline: 11-Sep-2025
The Arts Council has announced the Visual Artists Workspace Scheme 2026, inviting applications from eligible workspaces across Ireland to strengthen professional environments for visual artists.
The objective of the Visual Artists Workspace Scheme is to support artists’ workspaces throughout the country to provide the best possible working environment for visual artists. Where feasible, it also aims to provide a level of subsidy for the artists working in these spaces. Workspaces that can accommodate at least four professional artists working on-site at the same time can apply. Priority is given to proposals that demonstrate a unique need for the workspace and the form of support provided locally. The priorities of this scheme align with the Arts Council’s ten-year strategy (2016–2025), which commits to ensuring “a supportive working environment that addresses key points in the creative cycle by which art is made”.
Applications are welcome from workspaces in the Republic of Ireland that are dedicated to the support of professional visual artists, can accommodate at least four artists simultaneously, and are established organizations, groups, or collectives managing such spaces. Proposals that emphasize equality, diversity, and inclusion are strongly encouraged, including those that support equitable opportunities across gender, sexual orientation, civil or family status, religion, age, disability, race, socio-economic background, and membership of the Traveller community.
The maximum amount applicants can request is €50,000, covering workspace costs such as rent, utilities, administration, management, and artist development. Up to 20% of the budget may be allocated to essential repair and maintenance. The Arts Council also offers additional disability access supports to remove barriers for applicants, collaborators, and staff with disabilities.
Applicants must submit supporting materials including a tenancy agreement or lease for 2026, images of the workspace, CVs of those managing the space, and a list of facilities and development supports offered to artists. Applications must be made through the Arts Council’s Online Services portal, with registration required at least five working days before the deadline.
