Deadline: 19-Sep-2025
The Early Childhood Provisionally Registered Teacher (PRT) Grants Program provides funding to approved early childhood service providers in Victoria to support provisionally registered teachers in transitioning to full registration.
The PRT Grants Program provides funding to approved providers delivering state-funded kindergarten so they can support the PRTs they employ to move to full registration within 12 months of receiving a PRT grant. The transition period from studying early childhood education to securing a role and becoming proficient on the job is a critical time for teachers to consolidate their professional identity and practice. By assisting employers to support PRTs through this period, the PRT Grants Program aims to reduce attrition and enhance the professional development opportunities offered to early career early childhood teachers.
The program is open to approved providers of early childhood services delivering state-funded kindergarten programs in Victoria, including not-for-profit organizations and businesses. Eligible applicants can receive funding of $3,370.40 per PRT, a recent increase from $2,872 to better align with backfill costs. The grants can be used for activities that directly support PRTs in achieving full registration, including paid time release, travel, accommodation, and costs for professional learning. The funding cannot be used for activities that involve delivering services directly to children.
Applications for Round 1 of the 2025–26 program closes on 19 September 2025, with assessments conducted in October and funding disbursed in December 2025. Grant recipients are required to complete an acquittal process within 12 months of receiving the grant, confirming that the funding was spent in accordance with program terms and conditions. The department may recoup unspent funds or funds used outside program guidelines.
Priority for funding is given first to PRTs delivering funded kindergarten programs in rural, regional, or peri-urban areas, followed by PRTs leading funded kindergarten programs, and then those who have been provisionally registered the longest. Grant recipients are expected to consult with PRTs to develop a plan for using the funding and must report any significant changes affecting the grant.
The program also supports ongoing monitoring and check-ins to identify barriers and provide resources to PRTs and employers. Successful grant recipients may be promoted in Victorian Government communications and may assist with media or government visits. Data collected during the program is managed in accordance with privacy laws and securely stored.
