Deadline: 22-Sep-2025
Applicants are now invited to submit applications for its Forus Journalism Fellowship Programme to support journalists in amplifying civil society voices across the globe.
Civil society, social mobilisations calling for change and social justice such as actions led by citizens and communities in defense of human rights, social protections and democracy; Gender equality, social and environmental justice; The implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs; Financing for sustainable development; Power shifts in the development sector including philanthropic organisations, international non-governmental organisations, multilateral institutions and bilateral agencies.
Objectives include: Enhance journalistic expertise; Catalyze the power of independent journalists; Promote worldwide coverage with positive narratives; Support investigative journalism; Build and sustain a global network of journalists.
The fellowship aims to equip independent journalists and media professionals with tools, resources, and peer-learning opportunities to strengthen reporting on civil society initiatives. Each year, seven fellows from different regions—Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, Pacific, North America, and Latin America—will be selected, ensuring both geographic and thematic representation. Each fellow or team will receive a €1,500 micro-grant to support their reporting projects.
Over a six-month period, fellows are expected to produce at least six pieces of published work, ranging from grassroots stories on democracy and accountability to narratives highlighting gender justice, community-led reforms, and sustainable development. These outputs will be shared across Forus’ website, social media channels, and multimedia hub, contributing to the campaign on #PositiveNarratives.
Participants will also benefit from monthly online training sessions, bilateral collaborations with civil society organisations, and editorial support to strengthen their storytelling. The programme places emphasis on fostering networks by connecting fellows with the Forus network of 72 national members, 7 regional coalitions, and other global journalism networks.
The fellowship is open to early- and mid-career journalists across multiple media formats, working in English, French, Spanish, or Portuguese. Applications from historically marginalised groups and team applications, such as writer-photographer pairs, are strongly encouraged. Interested applicants must submit a resume, cover letter or video statement, work samples, and details on distribution plans by September 22.
